Two-Tier System of Justice?

Ever since news broke of Hunter Biden’s plea deal, the GOP has been grousing about a two-tier system of justice in which Biden’s son allegedly gets a sweet heart deal and Trump gets prosecuted. Of course, they say nothing about the convicted felons, eg. Paul Manafort and Patrick Flynn, who did Trump’s bidding and were pardoned by him. They complain about Hunter benfiting from his name; nor do they mention the Trump family members associations with dodgy countries like Saudi Arabia.

But this short essay is not about this. I don’t care whether Hunter gets probation or a ten year stretch in the slammer.

The two-tier system of justice that bothers me is rich versus poor. Take Trump as an extreme example. He is able to afford a brigade of attorneys full-time. Other rich people fare similarly. The poor man is lucky to obtain a public defender who has time and inclination to give him a robust defense rather than pressure him into a plea deal for a crime he did not even commit.

Another facet of this is when a lone individual goes against a large corporation. The corporation can afford enough lawyers to a field a baseball team. The individual may afford only one unless his interest is broad enough to get some law firm to file a class action suit.

This is not equal justice for all!! I can’t offer a solution for this. But it burns me when the GOP suddenly discovers this 2-tier system when it has been there all along.
