The last few years Democrats have killed by a series of cyber fiascoes. It may even have cost them the White House. It is not enough to have good policies, but you need to roll them out in sound fashion–especially in the cyber realm.
Anyone who has ever taught or designed a course knows that even the most insightful course will fail if the administrative issues are not handled. A great class in a frigid classroom is going to fail the same as in a class where the Powerpoints crash. It is particularly crucial to get the technology correct.
So what am I talking about?
Case 1. The roll-out of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) was a disaster on the website. The program was rushed, poorly tested, and did not allow for human behavior which is to procrastinate. So what happened? The American public which had wanted a health care program turned against it and hated it. The opinion became favorable again only when people realized what they would lose if the Republicans repealed it.
Case 2. The Hilary Clinton web-server issue probably cost her the election. It was gross incompetence on her part and that of her advisers. In my opinion, the only reason I voted for her was Trump was far worse. Unfortunately, she made her bed and we all have to lie in it.
Case 3. The DNC hack. The head of the DNC fell prey to a phishing attack by Wikileaks aka the Russians. The daily drip, drip of information was masterfully done and the Democrats had no counter. What happened to the cyber security guy there?
Case 4. Most recently, the Iowa Caucus. Why in the hell would you deploy an app that has not been thoroughly vetted? That is what Microsoft and Apple do all the time. Even they discover security issues and provide patches. Moreover, using a smart phone app in parts of a state with limited bandwidth and older pols with fat fingers is a recipe for disaster. The blow back from this is not yet measured, but it starts off an election year displaying total incompetence.
I am tired of this happening. Please try to get your act together.
